People travel. A LOT. Over the decades that number has exponentially increased and will continue to do so. In turn travel and airports are getting more and more high-tech, luxurious, and entertaining. Take a look at a few airports you might actually try to miss a connecting flight in.
Singapore Changi Airport
Singapore
One of the largest hubs in Southeast Asia, serving more than 50 million passengers in 2012. The airport boasts a nature trail including over six separate gardens representing different ecosystems. Shopping fiends will enjoy the airport as it is one of the of the most shopped destinations, rivaling the city’s famous Orchard Road. Napping lounges, fitness center, gardens, a four-story slide, massage chairs, rooftop swimming pool, a free admission movie theater and the option to take a special guided tour of Singapore if the length of your layover allows it.
Zurich Airport
Switzerland
The real catch here is an observation deck that allows you to see the happenings of this busy hub. Every passenger gets 60 minutes of free Wi-Fi and 60 minutes of free computer usage at an airport kiosk. You can also easily rent a room or a ‘nook’ for a nap or an extended stay (overnight layover?). And of course, duty-free shopping including iconic Swiss brands like Mont Blanc, Swatch, and Bucherer.
Incheon International Airport
South Korea
If you’re traveling through Southeast Asia chances are strong that you’ll have a layover in Seoul’s neighboring International Airport, Incheon International. The airy main terminal will make sure simply running from gate to gate is a breeze and of course the expansive duty-free shopping area are staples but Incheon also boasts a long resume of activities including “Spa on Air” sauna, Thai massage, ice skating rink, movie theater, gardens, and a cultural center where you can learn about the rich cultural history of South Korea.
Hong Kong International Airport
Hong Kong
Honk Kong has come a long way since their nerve-racking take-off and landing paths from the old airport (which carefully and cleverly manuevered around the downtown cityscape flying between apartment buildings and a 45 degree turn to align properly on the runway!). The new airport opened in 1998 and is the perfect setting for one of the world’s most international and cosmopolitan destintaions. It includes a 9-hole golf course, an IMAX movie theater, an education-oriented park for children, and an arcade with sports simulators. And of course shopping with all of the A-list retailers.
Munich International Airport
Munich, Germany
The Munich airport is one of the most efficient, attractive and obviously fun airports in the world! Nervous to fly? Ready to celebrate arriving to (or departing from!?) Germany? Ready to celebrate Oktoberfest? Good news for you: the airport brews their own beer! Enjoy their authentic Bavarian beer garden outside surrounded by shady trees. You can even get a tour of the brewery! Beyond shopping at the terminal, in December the airport is transformed to celebrate winter! An ice skating rink, holiday market, winter inspired food and drink. Oh parents, you can also drop off the kin with trained childcare specialists at Kinderland so you can enjoy that brewery 😉
